Stuffed Grape Leaves...

I joined a group called The Daring kitchen...each month you are given a challenge to try a specific recipe and if you don't do it, you get kicked out of the group! This isn't usually my type of thing, I don't really like being held accountable to things but I thought it would be a new way to expand my horizons!

Our October 2010 hostess, Lori of Lori’s Lipsmacking Goodness, has challenged The Daring Cooks to stuff grape leaves. Lori chose a recipe from Aromas of Aleppo and a recipe from The New Book of Middle Eastern Food.

I'm not going to lie...I was a little nervous about this challenge. I was pretty sure I would not like the grape leaves so driving around Portland for 2 hours to find them didn't help. I decided to invite my sisters to a food night and we all made middle eastern dishes. To my surprise the grape leaves were easy to make and delicious! These were the only pictures I took...sorry...I will try and do better at documenting my experience better next month!

The grape leaves were stuffed with ground beef, rice, pine nuts, onion, nutmeg, raisins and a few other spices. They are not the most attractive dish but they were still good!

We also had B'stilla, sweet potato and garbanzo bean soup, deep fried meatballs (there is a real name for these but I don't know what it is), and some kind of dough stuffed with meat. It was a great food night, I'm looking forward to next time!
